Oil Painting Workshop

Welcome to Nadya's Art Gallery

About the Artist:

My name is Nadya Gordon.  I am a self-taught award-winning acrylic artist and a member of the Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild. Born in Kazakhstan, I have lived in Northern Virginia most of my life. I work from my home where I live with my family and 3 dogs. I started painting over 20 years ago in oil, took a break for a few years while my kids were small and then took up painting again but in acrylic. My paintings have won awards, appeared in juried art competitions, are exhibited in local galleries and businesses, and are in private collections around the world.

I like spending time outdoors, taking in the wonderful scenery that Virginia offers year-round. For me, the ideal painting is the one that makes you feel like you could "be" there - I love painting landscapes for that reason.

I am on a never-ending journey to find new ways to innovate and add extra depth to my work. My main interest and inspiration is the beauty I find in nature - landscapes, seascapes, florals, and animals.  In my art, I create idyllic moments in time that let people mentally rest from the world they are in. It is always exciting to sit down to paint and suddenly - there is something in the world that didn’t exist before! Painting brings me joy and I love sharing it with others.

My style is semi realism – I use multiple references, moving, adding or subtracting certain elements to enhance the subject and create a pleasing scene that the viewer can emotionally connect with.  I aim to create “feel-good” paintings to brighten your day. I do my best to capture nature’s amazing beauty in my paintings. It’s how I say “Look, isn’t that beautiful!?”  Bringing magic to the world while having creative flexibility is what makes painting so enjoyable for me.  I hope that those that view my art will feel uplifted in some way.
